I agree with you on this Adam. Some folk have the frame of mind that "I pay taxes too and I should be able to occupy an entire lane of a major roadway...it's my right".
My thoughts: death always trumps "my rights". Even if I get the last laugh of posthumously suing the pants off the driver...I'm still dead. Not worth it.

No blinding blinky light on helmet, appropriate red flashing light on his bike and a second solid red on his back that unfortunately aims straight up as he is bent over to pedal.
I encountered a cyclist on my drive to work this morning. I have seen him once before, and shook my head, just as I shook my head at him again today.

Riding south on 52nd St, in the center of the right hand lane. Forcing the car behind him to change lanes, causing the next car to speed up and almost take him out, (once every 15 seconds or so).

Now, if he was a world class road cyclist riding along at 50km/h, I think that this behavior would be fine, but this gentleman was riding at no more than 20km/h. 40km/h under the posted speed limit.

I defend my choice to ride on the road instead of the bike path which runs along 52nd because I ride on the shoulder, passing traffic has no problem driving next to me, I don't impede the flow of traffic and I find that while traveling at 40km/h that the number of exits and streets that intersect the bike path make it more dangerous than riding, as I do, on the road.

So there you have it, the smallest of delineation between groups, he as a commuting cyclist, he seems to follow all of my cycling values, except he rides two feet to the left of where I ride, And I hate him for it.
