What I need is a good cup of your enthusiasm! (or perhaps just a good drink from the grail?) I am sorely lacking motivation this week, and the thoughts in my head when the alarm goes off at 4:45 have turned mostly into "But it is SO cold and early out there, but SO warm (and early) in here! Just sleep a little longer! then you won't have to put on 6 layers of stretchy things to stay warm when you spent so much money on the car in the driveway which has a fantastic built in heater" Until I drag myself up into a half sitting, hope I don't fall to the left or right position and finally, eyes mostly still closed, feet dragging on the floor make it to the shower.

Most mornings this is where the day starts to pick up, I regain some semblance of full consciousness, start looking forward to getting on the bike, and overall start feeling great! Definitely not today, I only went through the motions, fully programmed after 4 months of riding... Apply shorts, apply stretchy pants, apply jersey, apply socks, (notice right sock has several holes in the sole) apply new sock, get lunch from fridge... Look at bike and sigh. At least at this point I am committed, there was no way I was going to go back upstairs and change out of my biking gear, so I just got on and rode.

The entire ride, I had to constantly distract myself, which is not the best way to stay alive on dark city streets at 5am, off in my own little world, I'm sure I could have run into the back of a broken down bus and would have wondered where he had come from. In the end, one of my absolute worst morning performances, almost 44 minutes. 8 minutes higher than my normal ride.

But tomorrow will be better!

(Also, I hope that your wife is feeling better!)
