I have a Cycleops fluid trainer 2, I love it! I can't imagine using anything else.

I get too easily distracted in the house to use rollers and new wife is unhappy enough about the bike being in the house at all, if the bike started leaving skid marks on the floor from where I fell off the rollers, or a nice front wheel shaped hole in the opposite wall then I might lose my indoor biking privileges :>

It is hard to tell from the amazon.ca el-cheapo pictures how sturdy the stand would be. If it is decently sturdy, then it would be fairly simple to replace the crap-tastic looking resistance unit with a surplus alternator/chain combo leading to some sort of heater/fan/light system to burn off the burn. No wear on the wheels, but a little more of a pain to put the drive chain on and off for off trainer use. But at least it would give you rear granny gear some love, I'm sure it doesn't get used all that much.

I took a look at the cycle-ops site. They have their "Wind" trainer listed for around $160 ($134 on amazon.com but no Canada shipping, Bernie? :> ). It seems to get decent reviews with the exception of the noise that it produces and limited top end power. However, in their FAQ section there is a question regarding "can I upgrade by trainer?" and the answer is Yes as long as it was made after 1999. Perhaps the best option would be to buy the Wind with the eventual/next year upgrade to the fluid2.

or just go for it! Fluid 2, shipped from Canada for $349 including shipping.
