Yesterday riding home, I came around a corner on the pathway clearly marked "10km/h SLOW" thinking to myself, "why the hell would I slow down to 10??? they must mean slow down BY 10, yes definitely, slow from 35 to 25" and then I came within a foot of running over some old lady's kick me dog that was off it's leash and walking 20m in front of her on the wrong side of the path. In my head I thought "oh man, I could have gotten so much distance on that thing if I had stuck my foot out and gave a good...." but what I actually did was hit the brakes (I love my disc brakes, have I mentioned that? I rode an old bike on the weekend with cantilever brakes and I don't know how I survived so long.) slowed down to 10km/h ish and said "good day" as a meandered past her before getting back up to speed.

I now also firmly believe that my rear wheel is in fact, cursed. I have shredded a tire and a tube, then just a tube in the new tire, and yesterday on the way home I snapped a spoke. Luckily, having two full sets of wheels, I simply swapped tires last night and did not have to make an emergency bike shop run. I think I will wait to take it in until I take the bike in for it's end of year service.
